Withdrawing a job offer after the candidate disclosed a criminal record was "devastating" for her, but ultimately not unlawful discrimination, a tribunal has ruled.
The candidate had applied for an executive support officer role with the Canberra Institute of Technology and received an employment offer, then disclosed to the executive she would be reporting to that she had a criminal record.
That executive subsequently withdrew the offer, and the candidate claimed this was discrimination, on the basis her criminal record was "irrelevant" and therefore a protected attribute...
