AI efficiencies "counterintuitive to the wellbeing agenda"

Australia's overall low adoption of AI tools means some employees at the forefront are now at risk of experiencing a higher cognitive load than their colleagues, a workplace advisor says.

The small number of workplace "super users" – people using generative AI daily – might be doing their jobs more quickly and efficiently, only to be given more work to fill the time they've saved, futurist Dr Ben Hamer tells HR Daily.

This can result in a higher proportion of work that's cognitively intense, he notes. High workload is one of the psychosocial safety hazards employers have a positive duty to manage, but Hamer says he's not seeing employers be proactive about this risk...
