First-hand exclusion experience "opened everyone's eyes"
An event that gives leaders first-hand experience of accessibility challenges is helping to make inclusion part of their "everyday narrative".
Coordinated and held by Paralympics Australia, the Para Tough Cup raises funds for the 2028 (LA) and 2032 (Brisbane) Games via corporate events where leaders can compete in wheelchair basketball and other sports, including a "CEO lunchtime wheelchair sprint".
Beyond its fundraising focus, the Cup enables participants not only to observe challenges relating to access and inclusion, but also to experience them – the lack of lived experience of exclusion is often cited as a barrier to successful workplace inclusion efforts.
According to Arup Brisbane principal Penny Hall, the Paralympic Games are "a huge catalyst" for "step-changing narrative and perceptions" around disability and inclusion...
