Gen Z less confident now, but still rejecting traditional workplace 'rules'

Only slightly more than half of Australian Gen Z employees say their current job aligns with their ideal career, and just 6% plan to stay for a long time in their role, according to a new report.

Randstad's Gen Z Workplace Blueprint also suggests that 35% of Australian Gen Z workers plan to quit their current job in the next 12 months.

The Australian findings are more concerning than the global numbers, which show 44% of Gen Z are in roles that don't align with their dream career, 37% already regret their sector of choice, and only 11% intend to stay in their current role long-term.

The research also found that nearly 47% of Australia's Gen Z employees are planning an "early career break".

Randstad Australia GM Angela Anasis says many Gen Z employees are opting for career breaks to reset, travel, or realign their goals. Taking time off to freelance, study, or explore a passion project is less about stepping away than it is about "stepping back with intention", she says...
