AI adoption, whether encouraged or unsanctioned, could be changing the shape of tasks, workflows and even job design more quickly that HR can keep pace with, a talent expert says.
A major challenge is that without any central reporting on where and how AI is being used, some HR leaders are under the mistaken impression their organisation is yet to adopt it, says GoFIGR CEO Helena Turpin.
Whether it's Microsoft Copilot switched on in the background, recruitment software screening job applicants before the organisation sees their CV, or CRMs serving "smart" recommendations that shape sales pipelines, the absence of an AI launch or visibility doesn't mean AI hasn't already slipped in the back door, she tells HR Daily.
It's not just vendors creating this issue, Turpin notes. An IT department might have already enabled new AI features for efficiency; marketing might have signed up for faster content tools or be testing AI copy generators; finance could be trialling AI forecasting models; and operations might be exploring AI-driven customer service agents and mapping processes with AI tools...
