After being ordered to pay $90k in damages for discriminating against a breastfeeding worker, an employer now must also introduce anti-discrimination training for its managers.
Southern Restaurants (Vic) – the largest private KFC franchise owner in the country – was found in September 2023 to have discriminated against the assistant restaurant manager, after it denied her request for: a private and clean room with a comfortable chair; a fridge in which to store expressed milk; sufficient time to express; and facilities to wash and store equipment.
As reported by HR Daily at the time, ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal Presidential Member Heidi Robinson and Senior Member Lea Drake found the employer had "failed to provide a 'pass' level solution" to the employee's situation...
