Long-term casual awarded maximum compensation for harsh, unjust sacking

A casual worker has won compensation for unfair dismissal, with the Fair Work Commission noting that, given her years of loyal service, "she deserved better than an immediate dismissal communicated through a coworker".

Commissioner Mark Perica heard that the receptionist had worked on Mondays and Thursdays at Melbourne brothel Spoilers Recreation Centre since 2009, until she was sacked without notice in September 2024.

As a regular casual with "reasonable expectation of continuing employment on a regular and systematic basis", he accepted she had served the minimum employment period and was entitled to protection from unfair dismissal...
