"Lumping" DEI together oversimplifies each element

Diversity, equity and inclusion are discrete topics, and lumping them together does all three a disservice, according to a globally respected business leader.

Understanding each DEI element as distinct is essential to leading well in a world that's increasingly connected and divided, says Anne Chow, who was the first woman of colour CEO of telecommunications giant AT&T, and is the author of Lead Bigger.

Speaking of the three as one has oversimplified "very interwoven yet discrete" topics that leaders "must be cognisant of, and consciously make choices about", she tells HR Daily.

If leaders want to have greater performance and impact, they need to "widen their perspectives" of their workforce and workplace; if they want to widen their perspectives, they need to lead inclusively...
