Pay gap data a "reality check" on gender equality progress

More than half of employers have reduced their gender pay gap, according to new WGEA reporting, but the data serves as a "reality check" for anyone who thinks Australia has achieved equality in the workplace.

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency has published 10,500 employers' pay gaps today on its Data Explorer, including Commonwealth public sector employers, whose pay gaps were previously released separately.

WGEA has also released the Employer gender pay gaps report 2024-25, which analyses the data and notes that 52.3% of employers reduced their median total remuneration gender pay gap year-on year. (As HR Daily reported in November, the median gender pay gap is 11.2%.)

Further, 22.5% of employers have a 'neutral' gap – in the target range of -5% to 5% – up from 21.4% the previous year...
