"Permission slip" from leaders helps employees manage their energy

The biggest deficit most workplaces are facing isn't related to talent, skills or productivity, but energy, a positive psychology expert says.

"[Employers] don't have a talent problem, they've got an energy problem," Awake Academy co-founder Tess Brouwer tells HR Daily.

"Energy is the new 'rich' we have," Brouwer explains, because most people are "time poor".

"When you're time poor or in time poverty, you don't have any time to look after yourself, to look after your loved ones, to connect, to foster great relationships with your teams... and to find inner resilience."

And, she says, "when people are leaking energy, or when you have poor mental health, you have bad decision making. You're not showing up as the best version of yourself, so you're not able to focus or be clear"...
