Psychosocial safety improves when change is led, not managed

Poorly handled workplace change is the most common psychosocial hazard, and the solution might start with reframing how change is perceived, an expert says.

Even the term 'change management' is problematic, Bendelta leadership and change practitioner Kirsty Harvison says in a new HR Daily Premium Q&A.

"We think of change as a technical, linear thing... and some changes are, but more often than not, they're adaptive challenges," she says.

Most changes are "complex and dynamic, involving humans", so it's often not possible to predict the outcomes from the beginning, Harvison explains...
