"Reasonable excuse" under scrutiny in gender-equality bill debate

Large employers deserve detailed guidance on what might constitute a "reasonable excuse" for not complying with proposed new laws requiring improvements on gender-equality measures, a Senate Committee has recommended.

As previously reported in HR Daily, the Workplace Gender Equality Amendment (Setting Gender Equality Targets) Bill 2024 would impose new requirements on organisations with 500 or more employees – referred to as 'designated relevant employers' (DREs).

Specifically, it would be mandatory for DREs to set and make progress towards at least three specific gender equality targets...
