Instead of always coming up with new strategies to solve perceived organisational problems, sometimes it's better for HR practitioners to step back and consider which strengths they can more effectively leverage, an advisor says.
In a new HR Daily Premium webcast on HR strategy and organisational influence, Gartner senior director, advisory Robin Boomer says it's quite common for HR to want to "own and operate" various services.
He gives the example of thinking it's necessary to spend more on formal leadership training, "even though we might know that it's not really hard skills that [leaders] need, it's more professional skills and confidence in knowing that their peers are struggling with some of the same things".
If that's the case, he says, "we don't need to upgrade our programs, we need to broker the exchange of ideas and leadership tactics between existing leaders, and we can get out of the way"...
