Work-related anxiety reduces with 'acceptance' interventions

Practising acceptance allows employees facing stressful work situations to "pause before deciding how to react", leading to better performance and less work-related anxiety, new research shows.

Acceptance acts as a "safeguard against automatic actions" and can help employees adapt to new situations and challenges without becoming overwhelmed, according to academic Yaxian Zhou, from the University of Newcastle and the University of Hong Kong.

Zhou, and fellow researcher Bonnie Hayden Cheng, found that when employees practise acceptance, they can "manage their mental energy more effectively", which helps them improve their task focus.
