Candidate fit, especially in high-risk roles, is an area where many employers are overlooking ways to improve their workplace psychosocial safety, according to a wellbeing program specialist.
"Employers who are really ahead of the game with candidate fit have a really good understanding of the work role and the job characteristics – not just the tasks of the job, but the identity of the job," says Rehab Management head of innovation and psychological services Michelle Barratt.
This enables them to ensure prospective employees can understand the significance of the role, how it impacts others, and the psychosocial risks or hazards associated with it, so they can self-select out if it's not right for them.
"An example of that is people who work in, say, customer-facing or frontline roles where they are going to be exposed to angry customers or traumatic materials or events," Barratt says...
