Ambiguity around "what good looks like" in middle management is an issue for many organisations, but a respected HR authority has come up with a "definitive standard" for these leaders.
Bold HR's inaugural B-Suite benchmarking report, which defines "middle managers" as those two-to-five levels below the CEO, says Australia is losing 500 experienced leaders a day to retirement, and this year middle managers were laid off in disproportionate numbers.
Co-author and BoldHR chief Rebecca Houghton says the losses have contributed to "the largest exodus of middle managers in history", and it's one that employers' talent pipelines won't be able to offset.
