Dismissal for timesheet fraud was harsh despite ongoing underperformance

It was harsh to summarily sack an employee for timesheet fraud, even though his ongoing performance issues warranted dismissal, the Fair Work Commission has ruled in awarding him five weeks' pay as compensation.

The environmental technician for Site Environmental and Remediation Services (WA) Pty Ltd received a warning letter about his performance in April 2023, upon returning from a month of approved leave.

Specifically, he was warned to update checklists at the end of every day, calibrate all monitoring systems, and rectify monitor faults in a timely manner...
