Employees respond in various ways to the "mountain" of emails they face after a break from work, but the problem requires more than an individual approach, according to a productivity expert.
Email has become the main way in which employees connect and communicate, and the pressure to keep up is significant, says productivity coach Donna McGeorge.
Sharing the results of a recent MacroView survey, McGeorge tells HR Daily that 31% of employees don't disconnect from email while on leave, even when their employer or manager encourages them to do so.
They think that if they disconnect completely, they'll return to a "mountain", she explains. But when they continue to "keep an eye on it" while away from work, they don't really have a proper break...
