Employee "blindsided" by support person in redundancy meetings

It was "unfortunate" that the support person an employee chose for his redundancy meetings then took over some of his duties, but the Fair Work Commission has rejected that he was unfairly dismissed.

The employer's process was "not textbook", according to Deputy President Nicholas Lake, but he found it was a genuine redundancy rather than a dismissal.

The Surf Life Saving Queensland complaints manager was informed by email on 2 April that his position might become redundant due to a departmental restructure, and that the employer was seeking his input before making any final decisions...
