Employees at risk of crossing the line between AI assistance and dependence

To ensure employees retain the critical thinking skills organisations need, it will be crucial to clarify the line between using AI as an assistant, and depending on it entirely, an expert says.

"Having the skills to weigh up and evaluate information and make a judgement – reach a conclusion and make a decision for ourselves – is more important than ever," says Bethan Winn, author of The Human Edge: Critical Thinking in the Age of AI.

The question for employers isn't whether to use AI, Winn says, as "that ship has sailed". Instead, it's important to consider what skills they need to preserve and strengthen, and where to draw the line between assistance and dependence.
