Foxtel makes employees "screenwriters of their own story"

Foxtel Group's performance management approach used to be complicated, time-consuming, and inconsistent with its "unique showbiz proposition", but that's no longer the case, its people and culture leader says.

Under its old, paper-based system, different silos and leaders took slightly different approaches to performance management, so "high levels of inconsistency" were likely, Foxtel's executive P&C director Laura Durkan told Culture Amp's recent Culture First Global Conference.

"Like many businesses that prioritise the customer, a lot of the investment goes to the customer systems, and so we were very much on a paper-based approach which, for everyone involved, was highly administrative and a thorn in people's sides."

A key goal for the new system was to achieve alignment – not just between teams, but between the business strategy and growth and outcomes – so that leaders would be more motivated to hold high-impact conversations with their people...
