After successfully objecting to facing a claim of discrimination against on the basis of a spent conviction, an employer that rescinded a candidate's job offer has warded off fresh allegations of racial victimisation and vilification.
In November 2023, the candidate applied for a therapeutic counsellor role with the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service and was offered the position, subject to the completion of some pre-employment checks.
The employer subsequently withdrew the offer after receiving the results of a police check.
The candidate claimed he had been discriminated against on the basis of the protected attribute of a spent conviction, and he sought financial compensation, an investigation and an apology from the employer...
