Employer had no option but to sack worker after "embarrassing situation"

When an employee's "defensive" actions during a workplace investigation prompted a client to request her removal from its site, her employer had no choice but to dismiss her, the Fair Work Commission has found.

Commissioner Alana Matheson found the employee impeded her manager's ability to quickly defuse the situation with the client, and this conduct outweighed any deficiencies in the dismissal process.

The Glad Security employee worked at an information desk in Victoria's Eastland Shopping Centre, which was owned by its client, Queensland Investment Corporation.

She was sacked in January last year after the client requested her permanent removal from the centre, and she subsequently claimed unfair dismissal...
