Employer urged to improve performance processes after bullying claims

"Human resources could have intervened more effectively" when an employee's concerns about her performance rating continued to escalate, the Fair Work Commission has found.

Stopping short of finding any bullying had occurred, Commissioner Alana Matheson nonetheless suggested numerous "areas for improvement" in the employer's processes.

The Woolworths Group employee, who works in the eBusiness team, sought stop-bullying orders against her supervisor and a manager.

She claimed the supervisor failed to justify her performance rating and repeatedly targeted her with "destructive personal feedback". And she alleged the manager unfairly reduced her performance rating and "enabled and endorsed [the supervisor's] bullying".

Both denied bullying the employee, and the employer said their actions were reasonable...
