Employers' responsibility for culture change doesn't absolve employees

Regulatory and legislative change are creating a stronger framework for gender equality in the workplace, but the struggle to translate policy into practice continues, according to a gender equality leader.

The accountability organisations take has progressed in "leaps and bounds", UN Women Australia CEO Simone Clarke tells HR Daily, ahead of International Women's Month in March.

However, she says, there are two sides to the accountability coin.

"There's a lot of onus on employers creating this 'perfect' environment," Clarke notes, comprising a better culture, and good governance and policies to support it. But what's talked about less is the responsibility on individuals.
