Exercise breaks reverse mental health impacts of desk work

Just two hours of sedentary desk work results in a significant decline in mental state, however this effect can be reversed with a short period of exercise, a study has found.

The Desk Break study, commissioned by sportswear brand Asics and overseen by Dr Brendon Stubbs from King's College London, built on 2023 research which examined the mental health effects of uninterrupted desk work.

That research, involving more than 26,000 participants globally, found that Australians who were sedentary for 10–12 hours a day reported a significantly lower 'state of mind' score (45/100) versus those who were sedentary for only 4–6 hours a day (63/100)...
