The Fair Work Commission has recommended an employer and employee show "leadership" to move away from their current flexible work stalemate, noting a "part way compromise is still better than nothing at all".
In July last year, the Victoria Police leading senior constable made a flexible work arrangement request under the relevant enterprise agreement, seeking to perform eight 10-hour shifts per fortnight.
He said the two additional rest days per fortnight would help him care for his elderly parents, and that he was happy to work shifts on any day to fit in with rostering requirements.
But the employer refused his request, later informing him the loss of two operational shifts per fortnight would reduce its capacity and service delivery...
