Only about 5% of employers are operating at best-practice levels when it comes to supporting employees affected by domestic violence, a workplace wellness specialist says.
At the very baseline, most employers are aware of employees' statutory entitlement to paid family and domestic violence leave, says Martine Beaumont, founder of employee wellbeing specialist Select Wellness.
"That's where they fall back on, 'oh, the Fair Work Act has come in, yeah, we'll do the family and domestic violence leave', but they don't realise that it's actually a little bit more that's required," she tells HR Daily.
Beaumont estimates about 30–40% of employers take some extra steps, such as signalling publicly that they stand against FDV, supporting a domestic violence charity, or putting some key staff members through training...
