"How" employers approach office-time decisions determines acceptance

As employers continue to grapple with mandates and directions for office attendance, a workplace advisor says it's "how" decisions are made that will determine whether employees "rebel or engage".

Key to this "how" is an organisation's attitude towards flexibility, and its ability to embrace it, says Bendelta leadership and change practitioner Kirsty Harvison.

"Flexibility is not just about location, it's also about a mindset in the organisation," she says. It includes flexibility in terms of resetting after going off track, allocating resources, and responding in the moment, for example.

"The issue's not whether we're in the office or not," Harvison tells HR Daily. And the question employers should be asking is not about "how many days" employees should be in the office...
