HR's "knee-jerk reaction" results in $265k compensation

An employee with a criminal record has been awarded $265k in compensation for discrimination, after an HR leader "leapt into punitive action" without seeking any background information.

Back in February, ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal Senior Member Lea Drake described the acting head of HR's response to the record as "a quintessential knee-jerk reaction".

Senior Member Drake heard that the employee had fully disclosed her criminal record when she applied for work with the ACT Government through its 'temporary employment register'...
