Men approaching equal takeup of PPL after policy update

In an organisation that employs more women than men, fathers' takeup of paid parental leave is approaching that of mothers, and its head of culture and capability hopes this will have a far broader "ripple effect".

In 2023, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority achieved a 50% increase in men taking parental leave, and a 75% reduction in women resigning while on parental leave, after making its leave policy more inclusive.

Since then it has increased the paid leave on offer to 20 weeks, including superannuation. In the past 12 months, 44 dads accessed the leave, making up 46% of all parental leave takers.

AFCA's continuing efforts have seen it recognised this week as 'Workplace of the Year' by The Fathering Project – a national not-for-profit organisation that supports father figures to be "the best dads they can be"...
