Networking's potential remains largely untapped

Too many professionals still believe successful networking hinges on personality traits, when what's required is strategy, says a specialist in the field.

According to relational strategist and Relatus CEO Julia Palmer, who recently celebrated 20 years of providing advice about professional relationships, the basics around how to connect meaningfully with other humans haven't changed over this time.

However, she tells HR Daily, "I'm kind of still saying the same things, because people still haven't clocked it".

The common mistakes she sees professionals making include: trying to impress rather than connect; focusing on selling rather than relating; pursuing quantity over quality; and lacking awareness when it comes to listening to others...
