A people and culture leader didn't mischaracterise a manager's conduct as inappropriate based on the "angry black woman" trope, a commission has found.
The evidence the P&C leader considered was "strong", and she provided "clear and logical reasons" for her findings, Queensland Industrial Relations Commissioner Daniel Pratt said.
In June last year, following complaints about a Cherbourg Hospital health service manager, the Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service P&C executive director concluded the manager had been aggressive and confrontational in raising issues about management decisions outside the scope of her responsibility.
Specifically, she found that in mid-2024, the manager: complained that a poster aimed at raising awareness of sexually transmitted diseases was culturally inappropriate because it contained the word "budoo" (penis); said, "don't those idiots in Toowoomba consult with locals?" when asking who authorised the poster; and questioned, "Why do we have black people coming here telling us black people how to work..."
