Continuing falls in employee engagement suggest that despite ongoing effort, many employers still aren't prioritising, measuring or acting on the areas with the most potential impact.
Speaking at a recent Sydney event on lifting productivity without burning people out, Gallup APAC MD Claire de Carteret highlighted that employee engagement across Australia and New Zealand currently sits at just 21%, meaning fewer than one in four workers feel energised, connected and productive at work.
Gallup's latest State of the Global Workforce report tracked a two-point decline in Australia and New Zealand in 2025, she notes, after the region bucked the global trend in 2024 with a one-point rise.
