The High Court's important ruling on redeployment obligations makes it even more crucial for HR practitioners to understand how AI might displace roles in their organisation, a conference heard yesterday.
Gartner HR advisory director Neal Woolrich highlighted the decision (reported by HR Daily in August) at the HR Symposium Xpo in Sydney, noting that very few employers are making commitments to redeploy people whose roles are lost due to AI-based transformations.
"We don't often see that commitment to redeploy people," he said. "But in the not-so-distant future, organisations may have no choice.
"Governments are already stepping in, and we're starting to see some examples."
