Retention risks are peaking, but human-centric practices help lower attrition

The proportion of employees who intend to stay with their employer has dropped to its lowest point in three years. This is partly due to external factors, but there are three specific levers HR can pull, an advisor says.

In the first quarter of 2025, only 32.9% of Australian employees reported an intention to stay with their employer, according to Gartner's latest Global Talent Monitor report.

This is down from 45.1% in 2022.

Some of this can be attributed to geopolitical volatility, economic uncertainty, and cost-of-living pressures, Gartner HR advisory director Neal Woolrich tells HR Daily. But that doesn't mean employers are powerless to stop unwanted attrition...
