"Serious deficiencies" undermined dismissal of abusive manager

Simply "going through the motions" after making a dismissal decision doesn't provide procedural fairness, the Fair Work Commission has reminded an employer, finding it unfairly sacked a manager who abused and intimidated others.

An employee of the Yandina Hotel complained to its GM in May that the bottle shop manager had spoken to him in a "rude and derogatory way" in front of salespeople and customers, which he found "demoralising and embarrassing".

The manager also "targeted" him in critical posts on the staff Facebook page, he said, noting although these didn't identify him by name, "it would have been clear to all other staff that the criticism was directed at him"...
