Some bad leaders caused by work context, not "bad people"

Bad leadership is a critical problem right now, but it is partly due to an increasingly complex work environment, rather than "bad people", a workplace specialist says.

There are numerous warning signs of bad leadership, and HR leaders with "an ear to the ground" across all levels of the organisation are best equipped to tackle the problem, Michelle Gibbings tells HR Daily.

These signs include resisting accountability and being quick to deflect blame, or taking credit rather than acknowledging the efforts of their team.

Further, if a leader fails to advocate for and support their staff, or has a team with high turnover rates and minimal promotions, then questions could be asked about their capabilities...
