Leaders' self-awareness can have a big impact on the success of engagement and retention efforts, but ensuring they view feedback through the right lens is crucial.
According to Dr Michelle Gibbings, whether an employee is disengaging at work, or quiet quitting or "masking" their productivity, both HR and the relevant leader should be asking, "Why are they opting out? What is it that is happening at the workplace that is causing them to disengage?".
But the leader, specifically, should also be considering, "What can I do to step in and help?" and reflect on how they might have contributed to the behaviour, because it's leaders who set standards and create cultures, she tells HR Daily.
"The hardest thing as a leader is to really dig into the gap between how you think you lead and how people experience your leadership," Gibbings says...
