The experience gap is "a problem we really need to solve for"

Adoption of AI is driving an "experience gap" for many graduates entering the workforce, and it's "a really significant issue that we're not talking enough about", a futurist warns.

"It's a tricky one, because there's not a massive incentive for organisations to go about fixing it," Dr Ben Hamer tells HR Daily.

Hamer attributes the gap, at least in part, to a reduction in the entry-level jobs that grads have traditionally relied on to build experience. Already, he says, there seems to be a strong correlation between the adoption of AI, and contraction in the grad market.

Recent data from Indeed shows a 24% drop in graduate job ads in Australia during 2024 and, for the first part of 2025, a 16% year-on-year reduction.

"That data was being reported at the same time as data from the UK came out, which found that the 'big four' professional services firms were cutting grad roles globally," Hamer says...
