Despite taking on more strategic responsibility, some HR teams are doing themselves a disservice by stepping in to "fix" issues that other leaders could solve, according to a coach.
"The people who are attracted to working in people and culture and HR tend to be helpers; they have a really strong sense of service," says Donna McGeorge, who has spent decades working with individuals and teams to improve areas such as productivity, collaboration and communication.
"When someone says, 'Can you help us solve this problem?' [HR practitioners] want to then step in and be of service," she tells HR Daily. This perpetuates the idea that it's HR's job to fix other people's problems, which means that next time something goes wrong, they "go straight to HR"...
