The $170k in damages awarded to an employee who suffered "nightmare" conduct from her manager serves as a lesson to all employers to identify and take measures against common risk patterns, according to a workplace lawyer.
Businesses also need to ensure their training, policies and workplace directions are reiterated frequently, says McCabes Lawyers principal, Melini Pillay.
The case involved an employee of Mountain Bliss restaurant, who claimed her manager – also her 'employer', as trustee of the restaurant's trading trust – breached Queensland's Anti-Discrimination Act by subjecting her to sexual harassment and discrimination.
